For the Love of Fashion: Pastel Hair?

“For the Love of Fashion” is a weekly column on the FAST blog that breaks down the trends that may have you scratching your head.

The reemergence of pastel colors every year is one of the most reliable indications that Spring is just around the corner. Around the time Easter rolls around and everyone is boarding a plane headed for Cabo to spend a week doing unspeakable things they will have no memory of come Spring quarter, pastel pinks, lavenders, greens, and blues resurface from a long winter hibernation.

This spring is no exception from the pastel trend, and after being overshadowed by the neon trend of the past few seasons, they’re back with a vengeance.

But guess what? These colors aren’t just for your clothes anymore. Pastel hair is the latest trend that’s sweeping the fashion world.

We’ve seen dip-dyed ends reminiscent of the ombre trend (which is still going strong), and full on roots-to-tips color. However, unlike hair color trends of the past that belonged only to some angst-y teenagers with too much time on their hands, we’ve spotted this pastel trend on some of the classiest stars in Hollywood too.

Helen Mirren, of Academy Award fame, recently dyed her locks cotton candy pink after being inspired by a model on America’s Next Top Model. The 67 year old is probably the coolest woman ever.

We’re not sure if the rest of Hollywood will be as gutsy as Ms. Mirren when it comes to dying their tresses, but we can hope.
