STYLE SPOTLIGHT: ARCHY MARSHALL (AKA KING KRULE)

Archy Marshall (also known as Zoo Kid, DJ JD Sports, Edgar The Beatmaker, and King Krule)is an amazing, English artist who also happens to have an interesting sense of style. Marshall released his debut single, "Out Getting Ribs" as Zoo Kid but released his debut full length album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, in August of 2013 under the new moniker King Krule. Just like his style, the music he creates is unique and unconventional. You can hear a variety of elements in his music from various forms of jazz to hip hop to darkwave, somehow fusing all these genres together. Marshall released 6 Feet Beneath the Moon on his 19th birthday, meaning that he was 18 or younger as he was creating this album. His young age may seem hard to believe when you hear his powerful and unexpectedly deep voice. Marshall's adolescent appearance and booming voice may seem incongruous, but I definitely think it makes him that much more appealing. With his experimental music, poetic lyrics, heavy South East London accent, and deep, resounding voice, Marshall engrosses and captivates the listener. Initially, his songs might be too raw and jarring for some but I can assure you there is a feature of remarkable elegance and beauty to his music. If any of y'all are interested in checking him out, I've listed some links to my personal favorites below!

Marshall's style consists of oversized shirts, exposed socks, and cuffed jeans. He constantly dons large shirts with loud, funky prints that never fail to create an intriguing look. While rocking these intense shirts, he grounds the look with neutral colored pants and socks along with a pair of inconspicuous sneakers. Marshall's style is somehow simultaneously offbeat and striking but also relatively subtle. His sense of style reflects his music as they're both different, unconventional, and totally awesome. Marshall's style channels that sort of unattainable casual, careless, and cool look. Y'all know what I'm talking about, when you try to achieve that effortless, just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-still-look-really-rad kind of look that you either take an hour trying to reach or fail at miserably.

Marshall is a truly talented artist whose fan base includes Earl Sweatshirt, Beyonce, and Frank Ocean. Marshall has been pretty quiet lately since his album release and tours in 2013 and 2014 but I am patiently waiting for a new album and a tour (I've made it a life goal to see King Krule perform live). I'm stoked to see what King Krule has got in store for us and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

As I promised above, here are a few of my favorite songs from his album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon
